About Onancock, Virginia

Whether by car or by boat, historic Onancock,Virginia is a wonderful place to visit. Start with us at the Red Queen Gallery:  a wonderland of original art, quality prints, limited edition photography, superior crafts, and a bit of whimsy.

Next door to the Red Queen Gallery is Ker Place, home of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society.  A short walk the other way takes you downtown and these unique shops and restaurants:

On Market Street - Bobby Swain's One Good Tern, Tom Thumb Workshops & Market Street Framers, Stella's Restaurant, the Roseland Movie Theater, The North Street Playhouse, the Corner Bakery, Marsh Jewelers, Bizzotto's Gallery Caffe, Willie Crockett's Gallery, Timothy Smith & Sons, the House of Deals, Creative Concepts, and Walter & Walton's Emporium.

On King Street: Jack Richardson Gallery, Timothy Smith and Daughters, garden Art on King Street, and the Onancock General Store

On North Street: Flamenco Restaurant & Bar, The Blarney Stone Pub, the Charlotte Hotel and Restaurant, and the North Street Market & Wine Bar.

Finally, take a stroll down to our Onancock Harbor, stopping to rest in the gazebo in Memorial Park. At the harbor, you can catch the boat to Tangier Island, eat at Mallards Restaurant located in historical Hopkin's Store, or sit on the Liar's Bench and ponder.

Should you wish to take a nice walk, or have other transportation, go east on Market Street back toward Route 13 you will find Herbal Accents with many natural and organic foods, fresh and packaged, Scoops Ice Cream Parlor, the Inn and the Garden Cafe, and other small shops.

Onancock is only a few hours drive from Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and a great destination spot for a 1-day trip or an overnight visit.  We are about 45 minutes south of Assateague National Wildlife Refuge, and 45 minutes north of Kiptopeke State Park.   We offer a deep water harbor, many fine restaurants, a boutique hotel, several B & B's, an old fashioned movie theatre, and a unique shopping experience.
